One Last Hot Dog

Today I went for one last visit to the beloved Coney Island with Prink, her sister Meg, Nicole, and Elif. We did not brave the cyclone, but we did visit many of the attractions that are soon to be lost to hi-rise waterfront condos**shakes fist in air** no one or their rich grandmother will ever be able to afford. So we went down to see the freak show, have a hot dog, and one more walk on the boardwalk.

We had a great time rubbing Nicole's  belly and feeding her funnel cake and fried clams. She attacked this massive caramel apple, and then tried to paw it off on the rest of us when she got tired of the sugar. This baby will surely grow up to be a carney.  Oh, and at one point in the afternoon a seagull pooped on my head, I'll spare you pictures of that, thank you. I know this is supossed to be good luck, but really, when a bird shits on you, it's not luck at all.

And I finally have an FO to show! Mike and Rachel, another set of parents-to-be, had their shower on saturday. I presented them with a baby blanket

Rachel is due at the end of October, so this winter baby will need lots of warm things for the winter. This is actually not only my first log cabin blanket, it's also my first baby blanket. I ended up crocheting a  boarder, and then tacking some chocolate colored velour onto the back. I didn't get to snag a photo, but the back looks very quilt-y. I ended up tacking down the backing fabric with quilting knots: decorative and functional. This blanket is acrylic so it'll stand lots of spit-up, tears, washings, and long car rides. I hope their baby boy will enjoy it.

So much crafting, so little time

I made these.....
Monkey_socks_purple
Monkey Socks!
Yarn: Rowan something something discontinued. I forget. It's wool, and it breaks when you pull it too hard.
Needles: No.1 DPNs, purple, to boot.
Time: about a month
For: moi.
Notes: will make these socks again in a varigated yarn, because I think the lace pattern will pop better.

And my Big Gay Blanket is coming along well...

Who's it for yet, I don't know. I have a few pregnant ladies in my life and a few toddlers. Or maybe it will turn out so strange it'll be sent to Iraq to warm a soldier's heart. Lucky you might be the recipient of such magnificent acrylic beauty...

Curtain
AND I made this curtain. Big A has been complaining about getting the sun in his eyes, so I surprized him with this 10 foot curtain. The fabric is from Purl, and yes it was expensive, but so pretty!!

This past weekend Big A and I went to Southold, NY, which is a pretty town out in Long Island where is family has a vacation house. He starts school this week, so we had a nice romantic weekend watching the meteor shower, boozing it up at wineries, boating, and antiquing. I got this awesome scale:

Scale
It's the Deluxe Supreme  Postal Scale and it will accurately tell me the weight of my postal packages, though I bet the rates will be out of date. This baby balances up to 4 pounds, so it may find a serving of food on it too. And by the way- the yarn that this is holding is something that I got at the yarn swap at the Spiders Summer Gala but I have no idea what it is. Was this yours? Can you tell me what I'm holding here?
